Medical Transitioning and Letter Writing
Utah certified for Hormonal Transgender Treatment of Minors
Adults:
For adults who seek gender affirming medical transition services requiring hormone therapy (HRT) and/or surgeries, you may be required to obtain a letter from a mental health professional. Several of our therapists at Wiconi Counseling Center have the training and expertise to complete those letters. We follow our own practice policies to provide this service and we abide by
WPATH
(World Professional Association for Transgender Health) Standards of Care. We ensure that the letters we provide meet industry standards.
This is what we ask of you:
- Even if you plan to utilize telehealth for your appointments, we do request at least one in-person visit.
- Let the scheduler know when scheduling that you are seeking a letter for transitioning.
- Be aware we need to see a client at least three times in order to complete this process so as to get to know you better and to feel comfortable and ethical in the recommendations we provide.
- A Release of Information for the physician or surgeon providing your transition services is required. We provide this Release of Information through your client portal.
- Understand that this letter will indicate a diagnosis of Gender Dysphoria and will note any mental health diagnoses you may be experiencing, if any.
- We do not charge beyond your insurance copay or self-pay rate for a letter.
Minors in Utah:
As of 2026, Utah Legislature requires that we can only provide letters for those over 18 years of age, even if a diagnosis of Gender Dysphoria was given (by any provider) to the client as an adolescent.
